SUMMARY:Brave Parenting with Author Krissy Pozatek
DESCRIPTION:Adult Education: Brave Parenting Author Krissy Pozatek at St. Anne's on 2/17/16\n\nPOSTED 01/28/2016 03:00PM\n\n \n\n\n"Helping Children Navigate Life's Challenges"\n\nBrave Parenting author Krissy Pozatek to speak at St. Anne's Episcopal School\n\nWednesday\, February 17\, 6:45-7:45pm\n\n\n\nFree and Open to the Public\, Free Childcare with RSVP by 2/16\n\nFor parents of children of all ages\n\n\n\nSt. Anne's Episcopal School is pleased to announce its second parent education event this year\, when Brave Parentingauthor Krissy Pozatek speaks about "Helping Children Navigate Life's Challenges" on Wednesday\, February 17 from 6:45 to 7:45pm in the school's library. Designed for parents of children of all ages\, her program offers strategies for helping to build emotional resilience in children. A book signing with books available for purchase will follow the talk.\n\n\n\n\n\nIn her book Brave Parenting: A Buddhist-Inspired Guide to Raising Emotionally Resilient Children\, Pozatek proposes that the most loving act a parent can do is to compassionately encourage children to be brave and to navigate their own terrain.\n\n"As parents today\, we often feel that our role is to protect our children from the world: to cushion them when they fall\, to lift them over obstacles\, and to remove sharp rocks from their path\," writes Pozatek. "Controlling a child's entire environment and keeping all pain at bay isn't feasible we can't prepare the world for our children\, so instead we should focus on preparing our children for the world."\n\n\n\n\n\nPozatek draws her lessons from experience working with families and children\, as a parent coach\, facilitator of workshops\, seminars\, lectures\, and most recently as a visiting professor at Middlebury College. She explains that children who learn to face small hurdles at a young age will be much better equipped to face larger challenges later in life. "Early lessons in problem solving teach self-confidence and self-reliance and show us that our kids are tougher than we think."\n\nKrissy Pozatek\, MSW\, has a graduate degree in clinical social work from both Smith College School for Social Work and at N.M. Highlands University. She currently works with parents through her coaching practice\, Parallel Process\, established in 2006\, and lives in East Montpelier\, VT.\n\nFree childcare is available for those who RSVP online by February 16 or call Katie MacMillan at (302) 378-3179 x 321\; drop-in child care will cost $5 per child.\n\nWe look forward to receiving your RSVP and feel free to invite a friend! This event is free and open to the public.
