Hispanic Arts Event coming to Middletown!
On Saturday, November 8th from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Hispanic artists will showcase their talent at St. Joseph’s Church Price Hall in Middletown. Photographers, painters, poets, dancers, & musicians from Delaware and Pennsylvania will participate. All are invited to attend.
Celebrating the Hispanic Arts brings together more than twenty local artists for the first time in our area. The event is also a fund-raiser for the NEW START Adult Learning Program. NEW START is a non-profit adult education program sponsored by the Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library in Odessa. It teaches English as a Second Language and Adult Basic Education to adults who live in lower New Castle County. Pedro Escarcega, a professional photographer from Middletown and former student of the NEW START program, organized this event to raise money for the program. “I arrived in the U.S. with limited English skills. NEW START helped me to get my GED and a business license. From there, I’ve been able to start my own photography business. This is my way of saying thank you to the program; it’s also a fun opportunity to showcase Hispanic artists from Delaware and Pennsylvania. “
The program begins at 3 p.m. with photography and paintings. Live performances including music, poetry and dance will begin at 4p.m. Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and $5.00 for students (under 6 are free) and can be purchased at the door. Art will be on sale during the celebration (Cash or check only). Light refreshments will be available. All proceeds go to the NEW START Adult Learning Program.
